Our ears were burning at OpenText last week when  industry analyst Davidson Consulting called us out as the overall leader in fax services. According to Davidson:

“OpenText, the leading enterprise information management (EIM) vendor and the owner of RightFax, the leading fax server brand, acquired EasyLink, the leading enterprise fax service vendor. So OpenText now dominates the large enterprise Internet fax services market where it has 41.5% of the fax services market compared to just 12.7% for the next leading vendor…”

Davidson also noted the sheer resilience of fax technology:

“Fax has proved much stickier than anyone would have expected several years ago. Businesses find it an essential tool to comply with compliance issues and use fax because their trading partners prefer them to.”

Overall, Davidson attributes to OpenText:

  • 41.5% of the large enterprise segment
  • 40% of the enterprise production fax market
  • 24.4% of the broadcast fax service market
  • 22.4% of the overall enterprise fax services market

The annual report projects continued growth in the fax service market through 2017. Specifically, Davidson says, “The overall fax service industry will increase from $1,165 million in 2012 to $2,365 million in 2016, a 15.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).”

The report assesses the major players in the industry and provides forecasts for several aspects of the fax service industry including compliance, fax servers versus fax services, fax machine connections, and fax over IP.
